Uniform Time!

i am not too concerned on my husbands attire (per usual) but i am thinking this trek will allow me to finally build some parameters for my wardrobe. admittedly i am not one to conform when it comes to fashion, earning me the nick name "outfit" at one point in my life. but i think that restricting everything from colors worn to numbers of options per type of clothing item will allow me to be sure i love what i am wearing. essential for travel. so far in terms of colors i am thinking turquoise, plum, red, white & black...but that might be a little much.

 for shoes my options are

                                                                           2)    Pirate Boots
1) Power Sneakers

3) Roman Sandals...

but this is for the REST OF MY LIFE...not just the trek - too many sprains in my past for anything but flat, secure, footgear anymore. goodbye slip ons. good bye yah-huh-i-am-really-5-foot-9-stilts.

(my physical therapists friends will be proud)                                                   NO stilettos

NO flip flops

(ran it by mr.man: "if i had wanted to marry a stork...")

in terms of bottoms, summer is not forgiving on my body, yet shorts are not an option...what to do? keeping cool while being modest is not one of my strong suits.

knee length skirts i am guessing will be the key. freedom to run around and be comfortable and cool. but not without fear that a sudden breeze might expose what will purposefully be the biggest granny panties known to be worn by a woman under 67. or something horribly traumatizing printed on the bum so onlookers wished they hadn't tried to sneak a peek.

alas, are those my two options? i really can't think of anything else. yoga pants are too hot. harem pants are too long for their flow... are there such things as harem shorts?

i have a fear of catching my foot on the bottom of the pantleg...

but i also don't want the diaper long john look

apparently so...but are they for sale anywhere or does this turn into a sewing project at this point?

sundresses are going to be my mainstay. simple. light. cotton. and not fashion sundresses either. the kind we wore as little girls durable and ready for adventure. no spaghetti straps. no halter tops. no strapless. no worries. if i can't fight and dance in it, its garbage.

plus color minus creepy water balloon chest...

if this one had thicker straps

                                                 just nice a simple.

as far as shirts go i think an array of tanks should be  fine

but some light weight long sleeves to spare my porcelain skin might be in order as well
i'd go for look #2

upon planning for the sun, i have come to realize that my wardrobe is mostly black
(thanks all "the arts" i dress like every choreographer and art teacher and director and______, etc...)
this will have to change before the unbearable consequence of dark colors near the open flame of the sun

Whats it gonna take?

so i didn't really think this through, which is fine because i have months to get it together. the first thing i was thinking was who we had to make sure we saw and where they lived and what states to travel through. for some reason sleeping arrangements somehow it escaped me. i had a dream about the trek few years ago, we were in red bench seated truck driving across the desert. the windows were down, i was pregnant in a flowered sun dress and there was no dog.

i figured we would just take the blue 4 runner and Bluebelle since that is what we have. but then that would mean spending the night in a hotel? 31 nights times at least $50? No. i don't even know what that is but haaaaall no. we still have to pay rent on the apartment that month!

ok so rent an RV? buy a trailer? hmmm more research. we have a tent and fold down seats...but we would have to figure out a set up good enough not to get camping back. maybe a queen size foam pillow top. we swore we would never have the dog in a tent ever again. she takes the covers, digs, tries to walk on the walls, and steps all over us. but i've sworn all kinds of things. i also want to find a program that lets me draw on saved images so i can mark on maps.

Why Trek?

to put it simply it is something i have to do. in every sense i need to take this trip. physically, emotionally, spiritually, for my careers, for my family, for my soulmateship, to learn about people, places and things. i have been thinking about this trek for about three years now. we've done road trips for years, many of them from Orange County to Santa Cruz, most of them in California. we've never taken more than two weeks off since we been together and haven't taken more than an week off in 6 years. its time for a break. we also don't know where were going to settle down, i think this experience will show us what the states have to offer and what at the core we really like.

i need to be inspired on a grand scale. every time we travel it makes me wish my trip was longer. when i am on the road i never want to go home. maybe i want to over travel myself so i actually feel like settling somewhere. i have lived in one spot for much too long as it is. i want to have some time where the only responsibility i have is to myself. get my self to the destination i have planned because there is something there i want. feed myself something that sounds perfect as opposed to what will get me through the day or give me a sugar fix. have the freedom to stay longer or leave when it gets lame. i plan to take a good amount of pictures and i am really excited that i am documenting something from beginning to end. yay for projects! there is no way for me not to work all the time but at least on our trek my jobs will be looking, learning, taking pictures, sketching, blogging, working out, training at new places, finding supplies, hiking (carefully), and lots of snuggling. i'm ready to strip it all down, get efficient and ready to do this!

In the beginning...

Hey ya'll! This is my first post of my first blog. Here I will be documenting the planning of our month long cross country trip from coast to coast. Everyone's input is welcome on everything from places to visit, places to avoid, restaurants, routes, and invitations. No guarantees but...so far we think we will head north through California to Oregon, through Idaho, cut over to Montana, speed through South Dakota and Iowa, through Illinois and Indiana, stop in Ohio to see the Segura-Hollands, past West Virginia to see my Grandmere in Maryland, and at the very furthest point, to visit my only remaining childhood friend Annelise in Washington DC. Then on the way back go through regular Virginia, to Tennessee to visit the Holler Noces, blow through Missouri and Kansas, hit Colorado and Utah, and check out non-Vegas Nevada before returning. This is all we have so far, more to come soon!
